We’ve all had it. The frustration. The stress. The time limit. The indecisive thoughts. And the empty and ooey gooey brain.

My story:

Every 4 months I used to get designer’s block. I’d design NON-STOP for those 4 months and then BOOM! I had nothin’ else in me.

What I am here to tell you is there are 10 EASY STEPS TO CONQUER DESIGNER’S BLOCK!

1. Brainstorm – SHORTLY THOUGH!

Take the time to just doodle your thoughts. Right down some catchy words if you have to. There is no need to take 2 hours to sketch out a whole master piece! I’d say at least 3-5 minutes tops!

2. GET OFF YOUR COMPUTER!!! NOW!! YESSSS NOWWWW!!!

Just take a break! Watch a good action movie if you want to. Or maybe go to the park with a good friend. Whatever you do, DON’T THINK ABOUT DESIGNING!

3. Be Your Own Brand.

^^ Yeah I know you’re like, “Umm what the heck are you talking about!” This is what I mean, “Put yourself into your work dude!” Many of times, I used to stress myself out and be like, “What if they don’t like these colors? What he/she hates it? I’M SCREWED MAN! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!” I am here to tell you, put a little bit of your signature into that design [but still represent the client] and it’ll be a breeze! TRUST ME! This doesn’t mean that only you have to like it. This means, that hey, if your signature is grunge, then put at least a hint of that in there! HAVE FUN WITH IT! IT’S NOT ONLY A JOB, IT’S FUN TOO! LET YOUR WORK BE FUNTERTAINING!

4. Get “BIZARRE” and FORGET STANDARDS

I used to have this problem as well. I always designed like everybody else. I always stayed on top of the latest design trends. I am here to tell you THIS RULE IS NOW AGAINST THE DESIGN LAW! A famous person once said that “The Best Style Is To Not Have One At ALL”. Each of your designs should NOT look the same. If you’re trying to build up your portfolio, then, with each design use different colors. Mix and match brushes. PLAY WITH COLORS, BRUSHES, PICTURES, SIZES AND SO ON. GET BIZARRE AND GET CUSTOM!

5. Get inspired!

A lot of people say that getting inspired is the new way of saying “copy the design”. NOOOOOO! [PLEASE DO NOT STEAL MY FOLLOWING MOTTO, IT IS COPYRIGHTED] My motto is this: “I don’t copy, I don’t steal, I RECREATE!” A famous artist said that “Good artists copy, Great artists steal”. I tell you the truth, just recreate, get inspired, get bizarre, get custom, and have fun!

6. Take another break! Yessss ANOTHER BREAK! DO IT!!!

So you THINK you are finished with your design. Take a break. Don’t design anything. Zoom out of your design. And just STARE AT IT! YESSSS, STARRRREEEE AT IT MAN! Pretty soon something will pop in your head that you need to fix, like maybe adding a new font, or changing the color of the brush. Whatever it is FOLLOW YOUR FIRST INTUITION!

7. Don’t Underestimate Your Clients Mind/Thoughts

^^ Yeah I know you’re thinkin’ that your client will still HATE your design. DON’T ASSUME ANYTHING! I mean come on guys, we ALL can’t see the future! Just be confident and NEVER over sell yourself. You need to become one with your design. <<-- Was that cheezy? [shrugs]

8. Think Briefly

Never overwhelm yourself with tons of thoughts. Here’s what I want you to do. Take all your indecisive thoughts, put them in a bottle, close the bottle top, and throw the bottle in the river! DON’T OVER THINK IT!

9. Repetition = SUCCESS

It may seem weird at first, BUT, remember those tutorials you used to read a few months ago, and you stopped using what you learned? WELL, I am here to tell you, that if you repeat what you learned, but RECREATE it, YOU WILL SUCCEED! Let me explain this a little bit more: Okay, so hypothetically, I learned a new designing trick over at www.swimchick.net 3 months ago, and I haven’t used it ever since. BRING IT BACK, but re-do it. If the tutorial says to use a certain brush, TRY A DIFFERENT ONE, get bizarre, get custom, play around, and have fun!

10. Collaborate!

Yessss, not a lot of designers today collaborate unless they work together. I tell you the truth, you can learn a lot times 150 if you listen to what another designer has to say. Advice is great! But seeing it first hand and front row seat is better!

I know this video is pretty old. BUT, every time I see it, it makes me laugh. I really would like to know, how many times Joe Jonas got sent to his “creative corner”?

It has been so long since I actually took the time and designed FOR FUN. So here is the latest addition to my artfolio. I had a blast designing this. And plus I LOVE DEMI LOVATO. ♥

The order page is back up again. Sorry that I took it off for a while. It just got so hard because I wasn’t really getting any orders from anyone. And also at that time I didn’t feel like designing for anyone either. Depression or what?!

Speaking of that, it’s Christmas today where I live. It was my grandpa’s favorite holiday. I didn’t go to their house to see my grandma because I was so sad. I still am sad and just didn’t want to ruin the day for anybody. So I am home alone, by myself, desiging and stuff. Ahhhhhhhhhh………..
